Let’s start with some useful context. I’m 23 years old and live a “healthy” lifestyle.

I watch my diet, and sleep schedule and I’ve been working out regularly for over 6 years.

Despite doing all the “right things”, I still had to take a nap every day, because I got super tired.

I have no interest in taking steroids, so I researched natural ways to boost testosterone.

I came across Tongkat Ali, read the limited research available, and decided to give it a shot.

The science on Tongkat Ali and Testosterone results

In contrast to supplements like creatine, there hasn’t been an insane amount of research on Tongkat Ali in humans.

However, clinical trials and research have been showing growing evidence that Tongkat Ali can boost testosterone levels.

It does this by increasing the release of free testosterone in your body by splitting it from its binding hormone, the sex hormone-binding globulin.

The percentage of free testosterone in your body is what has the biggest impact on your life quality in general because this dictates the testosterone your body can use.

Science is great, but I had to put it to the test.

Time to find out if Tongkat Ali does indeed increase testosterone levels naturally.

My 4-month Tongkat Ali plan for boosting Testosterone

I made an appointment to get my blood tested before starting to supplement Tongkat Ali, to know my base testosterone results.

After four months I would make a new appointment, and see what happened with my testosterone values.

Both times I got my blood measured in the morning, before eating and drinking, to get the most accurate comparison possible.

I accounted for variables, by making sure there were no major lifestyle changes during the four months of using Tongkat Ali. My diet, training, etc. all remained the same during the experiment.

Note: I’m only one person, so it can never be an acceptable scientific study. Even though I try to account for as much as possible, you can’t make general assumptions based on one case. Always do your research.

My Testosterone expectations from Tongkat Ali

Based on the growing scientific literature on the effect of Tongkat Ali on humans, I had the following expectations for my results:

  • An increase in total testosterone.
  • An increase in the percentage of free testosterone.
  • A decrease in the sex hormone-binding globulin.

Besides a positive change in testosterone in my blood, I expected it to improve my life quality in the following ways:

  • More energy, so I didn’t have to take a nap during the day.
  • More strength in the gym.
  • A better body composition, so a better muscle-to-fat ratio.
  • A higher libido.

All of these expectations are based on the fact that these areas of life are directly influenced by the levels of testosterone in my body.

But all of these are merely expectations. The real question is, what happens in real life?

Let’s take a look at what my blood results looked like before starting with Tongkat Ali:

As you can see my testosterone for my age and lifestyle is pretty low, which makes sense because I didn’t have optimal energy, libido, etc. That’s why I was looking for a natural way to boost testosterone in the first place.

Turns out it isn’t easy to find a trustworthy, reliable Tongkat Ali product. There are many things to consider, such as

  • What type of Tongkat Ali you’re buying? You have extracts of 1:50, 1:100, 1:200, etc.
  • The percentage of eurycomanone, which is the active ingredient of Tongkat Ali and provides the benefits (most extracts, even 1:200, contain very little).
  • Is it a safe source to buy it from? It’s not a well-regulated supplement, such as creatine.

Eventually, I stumbled upon Nootropics Depot. The Tongkat Ali had great reviews and claims to be the most potent one on the market. It seemed safe, so that’s the brand I went with.

I ordered the 100mg 10% eurycomanone and 200mg 2% eurycomanone pills. I’ve been taking one of each in the morning right before breakfast.

For the first 3 weeks, I took it daily. After that, I started to cycle it 5 days on (weekdays) and 2 days off (weekends).

This is what I decided to do based on my research. There isn’t a specific dose for Tongkat Ali, so you might want to start with just one of them. Or switch them every other day.

How did I feel during the 4-months on Tongkat Ali?

In short, I started to notice the effect of Tongkat Ali after about a week of taking it.

Benefits

  • My daily energy got way better and I didn’t have to take naps anymore during the day.
  • I could deal with stressful situations a lot easier and started to think clearer when things would normally have freaked me out.
  • My strength in the gym went up faster than my usual rate of progression.
  • My muscle-to-fat ratio improved at a higher body weight than I could maintain before. I went from normal weight, relatively lean (estimate of 12% body fat) of 86-87kg to around 90-91kg.
  • I had more drive in life to pursue my goals, such as working entire days end on end to create this blog from scratch.
  • Sex related: my libido improved substantially, the amount of sperm went up and my erections last longer and are harder.

Side-effects

  • I wake up more during the night. This is not optimal, because sleep is very important for your body to repair, process thoughts, etc. I always aim for 8 hours of sleep and previously really needed this to feel somewhat good. However, even though my sleep is less optimal, I still feel way more awake and alert during the day. So, I find this rather strange.
  • If I take it in the morning without having breakfast right after it, then I will start to feel very sick. However, when I do have breakfast I don’t notice any problems at all.

The question remained, what were my blood results like after 4 months?

Were all the benefits and the side-effect I noticed just placebo, or did my testosterone levels improve?

I felt better, so I was pretty convinced it wasn’t a placebo effect.

I made a new appointment, lost some more blood for the sake of science, and waited for the results.

This is what my testosterone levels looked like after 4 months of Tongkat Ali:

Tongkat Ali Testosterone Expectations vs Reality

Did Tongkat Ali meet my expectations? Well, yes it did exactly what the science suggested.

My total testosterone increased from 466 ng/dL to 567 ng/dL, which is an increase of 21,67 %.

My free testosterone increased from 37,9 % to 51,3 %, which is an increase of 35,36 %

My sex hormone-binding globulin decreased from 42,6 ng/dL to 38,3 ng/dL, which is a decrease of 10,1 %

My doctor who previously said “there is no natural way to boost your testosterone”, admitted that these results were impressive.

I did not have any negative side effects shown in my blood whatsoever and he said I could continue taking Tongkat Ali.

Supplementing Tongkat Ali turned out to be a really good experience.

I’ve noticed an improvement in many areas of life such as energy, sex life, striving for goals, strength, and my physique.

My overall testosterone levels and free testosterone increased pretty significantly as well.

Overall I’m really happy with the results and I plan on continuing to cycle Tongkat Ali 5 days on and 2 days off.
