I don’t just love pancakes, I’m a fanatic.
When I was just a little Viking Beast, I used to go to my grandparents during school lunch breaks.
I was super skinny and disliked food in general, except the heavenly pancakes from my grandmother. I survived on those.
Turns out those pancakes were just pre-packaged pancake mixes from the store, with a sprinkle of grandmother magic of some kind.
Many things changed over the years, but my deep love for pancakes never went away.
I’ve experimented with many protein pancake variations, and today I’m sharing how to make one without the use of plain flour.
Delicious banana protein pancakes.

How to make Banana Chocolate Protein Pancakes
- Add 10-20 grams of pure cacao powder
Banana chocolate protein pancakes are not just super tasty (if you like chocolate of course), but cocoa powder is also a real superfood.
It has plenty of health benefits and is the primary source of a substance called epicatechin.
You can read more about epicatechin here, it’s really good for fitness/ bodybuilding purposes as well.
How to make Banana Peanut Butter Protein Pancakes
- Add 10-20 grams of 100% peanut butter
Peanut butter is not only delicious but also a very good source of healthy fats.
This will make the banana protein pancakes a more well-rounded meal because as described above it’s mainly high in carbohydrates and proteins.
How to calculate the calories in Banana Protein Pancakes
The banana protein pancakes as described above are 708 calories.
They have 65 grams of proteins, 62 grams of carbohydrates, 7 grams of fiber, and 21 grams of fat.
I used unsweetened almond milk and left out the chia seeds.
You can split it into two portions, depending on the number of calories/ proteins you'd like to eat.
If you wish to calculate the exact amount of calories in your custom banana protein pancakes, but you don’t know how, well I’ve you covered.
I’ve written an in-depth article that explains how you can easily track the calories of all your foods using an app called MyFitnessPal. You can find it here.
Make Banana Protein Pancakes lower in calories
If you’re on a lower-calorie diet or simply want to save more calories for later, here is what you can do:
- Use only 1-2 eggs, and add some egg-white only eggs instead.
- Use only 20 grams of oats.
- Use low-calorie plant-based milk, like unsweetened almond milk.
Use around 50ml of milk if you cut back on ingredients, otherwise, it won’t bake as good.
Make Banana Protein Pancakes higher in calories
If you require more calories because you’re trying to bulk up or you’re just very hungry, here is what you can do:
- Use more whole eggs
- Add another ripe banana
- Add oats
- Add cacao powder
- Add peanut butter for healthy fats/ a lot of calories
- Add cornflakes to the mix (maybe weird, but delicious)
- You can substitute the (plant-based) milk with chocolate milk
Use more milk as you add ingredients, otherwise, the banana protein pancake batter won’t mix properly.
Add more proteins to Banana Protein Pancakes
If you just can’t have enough proteins, ever, then this is what I recommend you do to increase your protein intake even further:
- Add more egg whites
- Add protein powder
- Add cottage cheese/ high-protein (Greek) yogurt
The best thing to do is add protein powder, egg whites, and yogurt evenly, while slightly using more milk.
How to make Banana Protein Pancakes
Banana protein pancakes are easy and simple to bake. Here’s how:
- Take a big bowl and a hand mixer.
- Crack the eggs, add the cottage cheese/ yogurt, and mix those first.
- Add the banana and mash it, then proceed with adding the other ingredients.
- Mix till smooth, while pre-heating a pan on maxed-out fire (I’m kind of impatient).
- Cover the pan with zero-calorie cooking spray, coconut oil, or extra virgin olive oil. Or use butter, but this is my least favorite.
- Change the heat to a medium setting, and pour in the banana protein pancake batter.
- Wait a couple of minutes till the first side is done, flip it over, and wait another couple of minutes before your delicious chocolate protein pancakes are done.
- Repeat till you’re completely out of banana protein pancake batter.
Pro tip: use multiple pans for an increase in speed.
